Journey Meditation, A Meditation Technique The first thing that comes to mind for a lot of people when they see the words meditation technique is to picture themselves in the lotus position performing an eastern technique, all the time thinking “I don’t have time to do this for 30 minutes” or “I could never have a blank mind” or even “I could never sit in a position like that for over 10 seconds!”. Well, the good news is there are other meditation techniques such as a “Journey Meditation”. In as little as 10 – 15 minutes a day you can derive the many wonderful benefits from meditation but in a manner that’s more attuned to you and your lifestyle. It’s the old adage that it’s not the quantity but the quality that really matters. What is a “Journey Meditation” and is it for Me? There are many meditation techniques. So many that everyone can find a form that they enjoy. A Journey Meditation combines imagery and visualization to achieve a meditative state. This form appeals to those who find serenity by picturing themselves in a peaceful place. It connects you with your inner being and nourishes your soul by taking a break from all the noise and business of the outside world. It replaces negative stimulation with feelings of beauty and serenity. It takes away confusion and bewilderment and instills a sense of harmony and balance. A Journey Meditation is not limited by religious traditions, age, gender, race or demographics. Nor is it about converting someone to a particular belief system or religion. It is not a religious practice at all. You can continue practicing the religious tradition in which you were brought up and still reap the benefits of a journey meditation. Meditation techniques are not about achieving a perfect meditation. There’s no right way or perfect way to meditate. Being a perfectionist myself, trust me, don’t go there and save yourself the frustration. Start where you are in the process and be OK with it! It’s like working out in the gym. You don’t build muscle over night, you get in shape gradually. So it is with meditation, the more you do them, the more beautiful changes will occur in your lives. Don’t worry in the beginning if you are doing it correctly. The bottom line is if you are feeling better at the end, you are doing it right! Why Meditation?
So much of our time and attention today is spent reading, analyzing, and processing information. Information from TV, the internet, newspapers, books, and magazines, with most of it negative information at that. We don’t spend near enough time basking in feelings of peace and love which nurtures and frees our soul. This creates an imbalance in our lives. We are mental, physical and spiritual beings! All aspects of ourselves need to work in harmony with each other. Constant imbalance will eventually show up in our lives in negative ways. Meditation is the foremost balancing technique in human experience today. Scientific studies have proven over and over again that there are numerous psychological, physical and spiritual benefits from meditation. Physicians now recommend meditation techniques as a way of helping their patients to lower their blood pressure. Psychotherapists are recommending meditation techniques in conjunction with their therapies; especially for stress and anxiety relief. Here are but a few of the proven benefits: Physical benefits include:

How do I use Meditation? One thing you don’t have to do is to have a blank mind. I believe this misnomer is probably the number one reason a lot of people do not even attempt meditation or quit shortly after they start. They believe there is no way they can stop their mind from thinking. And they are right, to an extent. Certainly, what we want in meditation is to reduce our thoughts; especially negative inner self-talk that creates anxiety, depression, limits and self-doubt. But there is much more to the mind other than inner self-talk. When self-talk ceases during meditation the mind is anything but blank. Instead it is full. The mind is so full that it shuts out the inner self-talk. The inner self-talk is replaced with perceptions, feelings, emotions, physical sensations, and internally generated images. To meditate is to quiet the self-talk by using a technique that shifts our mind, our focus, from the self-talk that is with us 24-7 to a non-thinking, mindfulness being state that allows us to fully embrace our Spirit. Some call this bliss. This is the goal of meditation, but the key thing to remember is that the journey is as important as the destination. This means that you will realize benefits of meditation just by practicing it. The inner-talk will be loud as you begin but as you practice regularly you will begin to have quieter inner-talk and longer and longer periods of mindfulness. This will increase the benefits of meditation while moving you closer to the ultimate goal of blissful being. TwentyGems, Journey to the Self are “Journey Meditations” designed for the 21st Century.
